The Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Services are available for women experiencing difficulties with their own or someone else’s AOD use.
These services include:
- Individual, couple and family counselling services
- Group programs
- School holiday programs and social and recreational activities
Individual, couple or family counselling is available. Qualified counsellors work alongside women and their families experiencing AOD related problems to make positive changes in their own and their families lives. WHFS encourages family involvement and family members including partners, parents and children and offers individual, family and/or couples counselling.
Nurturing Families is a free outreach service for pregnant women or women who have children up to four years of age, who self-report having current or previous alcohol and other drug issues, are not well connected to community services, and live north of the river. The program offers 12 – 18 months of emotional and practical support to help women and their families to be as safe and healthy as possible, and build confidence to address any alcohol and other drug issues. The support offered to participants includes:
- AOD counselling
- Connecting participants and their families to community resources that will help them build and maintain healthy, independent family lives
- Providing parenting support advocating on behalf of the participant and family
- identifying strengths, helping to develop goals and steps to meet those goals
The AOD services provide women with an opportunity to access additional support from others experiencing similar difficulties whilst also learning new skills. Expressive therapy groups and open, structured, psycho-educational and therapeutic groups are available. Please see the Groups page for more details.
