The Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Services are available for women experiencing difficulties with their own or someone else’s AOD use.

These services include:

  • Individual, couple and family counselling services
  • Group programs
  • School holiday programs and social and recreational activities

Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program

The AOD services provide women with an opportunity to access additional support from others experiencing similar difficulties whilst also learning new skills. Expressive therapy groups and open, structured, psycho-educational and therapeutic groups are available. WHFS runs a number of online and face to face SMART recovery groups which are weekly goal setting groups aimed at addressing any problematic or addictive behaviours. Individual, couple or family counselling is available. Qualified counsellors work alongside women and their families experiencing AOD related problems to make positive changes in their own and their families lives. WHFS encourages family involvement and family members including partners, parents and children and offers individual, family and/or couples counselling.

Recovery College

Recovery College Courses covering topics such as personal development, wellness, and growth. The courses are aimed at all abilities and ages and use art, discussion, group participation and activities to explore an array of topics. All courses are free and open to anyone in the community. Anyone interested can check out current Recovery College courses and register here  https://warecoverycollege.org.au/courses/  or contact Karen for more information on 0415 729 877 or at  wellness@whfs.org.au

Nurturing Families

Nurturing Families is a free outreach service for pregnant women or women with one or more children under four years of age, who self-report having current or previous alcohol and other drug issues, are not well connected to community services, and live north of the river. The program offers two years of emotional and practical support to help women and their families to be as safe and healthy as possible, and build confidence to address any alcohol and other drug issues. The support offered to participants includes:

  • AOD counselling
  • Connecting participants and their families to community resources that will help them build and maintain healthy, independent family lives
  • Providing parenting support
  • Advocating on behalf of the participant and family
  • Identifying strengths, helping to develop goals and steps to meet those goals

Court Diversion Program and Community Justice Services

WHFS is a WA Diversion Program treatment provider and offers a comprehensive range of free therapeutic support services to women (and their families) who are referred by the Diversion Officers in the metropolitan courts. Women who are participating in the Pre-Sentence Opportunity Program (POP), Supervised Treatment Intervention Regime (STIR) or the Perth Drug Court are offered individual, couple or family counselling and are also able to access the group programs. WHFS also provides a range of therapeutic services to women and their families affected by AOD use who are being supervised by the Department of Corrective Services. Individual, couple and family counselling and group programs are available.

AOD Peer Support/Groups

In collaboration with Women’s Recovery Community, WHFS hold Event Nights and Empowerment Evenings /Peer led Support Groups. This is a peer led and peer run group that holds a variety of events in partnership with Women’s Health and Family Services. First Tuesday of the month 6.30pm- 8.30pm Northbridge Peer Programs. Counselling and Support – After Hours Services

For Individuals, Students, Carers, Couples and Families. Evening and Day appointments available. Counselling is available for Individuals, students, carers, couples and families to assist with stress management, mental health, relationships, eating disorders, drugs & alcohol and other issues. Groups are available at various times including parenting, personal development, health and SMART recovery.
