Education programs for women and scholarships
Donations help educate vulnerable women in community centres through Certificate II Leadership courses run by WHFS and South Metropolitan TAFE.
This qualification is a good stepping stone for women wishing to:
- undertake further studies,
- enter the work force
- and/ or become more actively involved in their community.
Participants will learn basic leadership skills suitable for a range of industries and career groups. Students skills include: occupational health and safety, how to chair meetings (including preparing agendas and taking minutes), computing skills, developing and implementing a project, working with others in a team, and more!
Donations will also contribute to venue costs, course materials and scholarships for women who can’t afford the course fees.
Donations open up opportunities for disadvantaged and vulnerable women to get their driving licences through our driving program. The majority of women in the driving program want a licence for employment reasons. A licence makes it easier and safer to do shift work and easier to combine, work, study, and child care or other caring commitments.
Women are encouraged to financially contribute to each lesson but many cannot afford full payment so donations make up the remainder of the lesson fee.
WHFS clients have many needs so WHFS undertakes fundraising for many special projects. We are currently raising funds to contribute to crèche costs, which enable women to attend appointments and groups whilst their children are cared for in a special crèche facility at our sites.
